The SC LIFE (South Carolina Lottery Tuition Assistance) Scholarship was established in 2001 by the South Carolina General Assembly.
Created to provide financial assistance to eligible South Carolina residents pursuing higher education in the state
General Eligibility:
Citizenship:
Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen under state residency statutes.
Residency:
Be a resident of South Carolina at the time of high school graduation and during the period of the award.
High School Graduation:
Graduate from a South Carolina high school or be a dependent of a parent or guardian who was a legal resident of South Carolina at the time of the student’s high school graduation.
Enrollment:
Must be a full-time undergraduate student seeking their first baccalaureate degree.
Criminal Record:
Applicant must –
Not have been judged delinquent,
convicted, or pleaded guilty.
or nolo contendere to any felony in any state.
Alcohol and Drug Offenses:
Must not have been convicted of any second alcohol- or drug-related misdemeanor in any state within the 12 months prior to the period of the award.
Financial Aid Status:
Student must not be in default or owe a refund or repayment on any federal or state financial aid.
They must meet certain academic requirements, such as achieving a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in high school.
Sc Life Scholarship Application Requirements:
Requirements for First-Year Students:
General Eligibility- Must meet all general eligibility requirements for the scholarship.
Academic Criteria- Must meet at least two of the following three requirements:
a. 3.0 final high school grade point average based on the Uniform Grading Scale.
b. Minimum SAT score of 1100 (or 22 on the ACT).
c. Graduated in the top 30 percent of your high school class.
To apply for the SC LIFE Scholarship, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The FAFSA determines their eligibility for need-based financial aid programs, including the SC LIFE Scholarship.
Renewal $ Disbursement
The SC LIFE Scholarship is renewable for up to eight consecutive semesters or until the completion of the first bachelor’s degree, depending on which milestone is reached first.
Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined by their institution.
Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 at the end of each academic year.
The LIFE Scholarship directly applies to the student’s account to cover tuition and fees.
The scholarship is generally available during the Fall and Spring semesters.
Benefits and Coverage:
Presently, the maximum value stands at $5,000, comprising $4,700 for tuition and an additional $300 to cover textbook expenses.
The SC LIFE Scholarship provides tuition assistance to eligible students attending public or independent colleges and universities within South Carolina.
The scholarship amount may vary each year, as it is contingent upon available funding.
Students may receive up to the cost of in-state tuition or the maximum award amount determined by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education.
