Kansas Promise Scholarship

The Kansas Promise scholarship was established by the Kansas Legislature.

Aims at eliminating the financial obstacle that prevents individuals from pursuing the education necessary for high-paying, in-demand, or critical jobs in Kansas.

This scholarship can be utilized for a maximum of 68 credit hours or $20,000 per student over their lifetime, whichever comes first, across one or multiple eligible programs.

Kansas Promise operates as a last-dollar scholarship.

Student can receive a scholarship amount equal to the total tuition, mandatory fees, books, and materials expenses, after deducting any other non-repayable financial aid they have received

US citizen and Kansas resident

Graduated from a secondary school within the past 12 months or obtained an equivalent credential

Kansas resident for the past three consecutive years

Dependent child of a military service member permanently stationed in another state, who graduated from an out-of-state secondary school or obtained a high school equivalency within the past 12 months

In the custody of the KS Department of Children and Families during grades 9-12

Family household income limits:

  • $100,000 or less for a family of two
  • $150,000 or less for a family of three
  • $150,000 + $4,800 per additional family member beyond three.

Application Requirements

Submit the required scholarship application.

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Submit the WSU Tech Application for Admissions (no application fee).

Sign a Kansas Promise scholarship agreement.

Enroll in an eligible field of study at an eligible institution.

Complete the program within 36 months from the first award, while maintaining satisfactory academic progress.

Enroll on either a part-time or full-time basis.

Upon program completion, reside and work in Kansas for a minimum of two consecutive years or enroll in a Kansas institution of higher education and subsequently reside and work in Kansas for a minimum of two consecutive years.
