Google Cybersecurity Scholarship for African Students 2023

Google is launching an online Cybersecurity Certificate on Coursera for Sub-Saharan Africa.
The aim is to address the region’s cybersecurity skills gap.
The course will offer 2,000 scholarships to learners.
It aims to boost digital transformation and economic growth by providing in-demand tech skills.
The certificate is an addition to existing certificates in Data Analytics, Digital Marketing & E-commerce, IT Support, Project Management, and UX Design.
Google recently launched advanced certificates in Advanced Data Analytics and Business Intelligence.
Over 20,000 people have graduated from the Google Career Certificates program in Sub-Saharan Africa.
More than 80% of graduates reported a positive career impact within six months, such as a new job, higher pay, or promotion.

The cybersecurity certificate will cover topics such as identifying risks, threats, and vulnerabilities.
Hands-on experience will be gained in using Python, Linux, SQL, and SIEM tools.
Google will offer 2,000 scholarships for the certificate program.
Distribution partners such as ICT Authority in Kenya, The Roothub in Nigeria, and RLabs in South Africa will collaborate to provide access to the certificate and support learners throughout their learning journey.

The cybersecurity certificate is open to students from Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa.

The distribution partners aim to reach learners, provide them access to the Cybersecurity certificate, and support them throughout their learning journey.

The Women Techmakers Ambassador program supports women in technology who want to make a positive impact in their communities.
Google and the larger Ambassador community provide support to the Ambassadors.
Ambassador responsibilities include organizing events, speaking at events, creating resources, and mentoring others in their tech community.
Ambassadors can participate in program benefits such as networking events, community building, and development sessions.
Ambassadors must adhere to the program guidelines.
Ambassadors are expected to commit to the mission of building a world where all women can thrive in the tech industry.

The Women Techmakers Ambassador program connects with 1000+ Ambassadors globally who share a passion for technology and promoting diversity and inclusivity in the industry.
Ambassadors play an active role in their tech communities by organizing events, speaking at events, creating content, or mentoring others, with support from Google.
Ambassadors receive exclusive access to Google-led talks and workshops that cover various topics, including leadership development and in-depth knowledge of Google technologies.
The impactful work of Ambassadors in their communities is recognized by the global Women Techmakers team.

Applicants must be 18 years old or older.
They should be active leaders in their tech community with at least 1 year of experience in organizing events, speaking at events, creating resources (such as blogs or videos), and/or mentoring others.
Applicants should have a genuine interest in Google technologies and be interested in further developing their skills.
They must be willing to actively participate in the program and commit a minimum of approximately 10 hours per quarter to execute community activities throughout the year.

Google is offering Conference Scholarships to selected conferences in the tech industry and related fields.
The scholarships aim to remove barriers that prevent underrepresented groups in technology and business from attending these conferences.

Aims

The aim of Google Conference Scholarships is to support selected individuals.
The scholarships empower individuals to attend influential conferences.
The scholarships provide an opportunity for individuals to broaden their professional horizons.

To be eligible for a scholarship to attend an international conference, applicants must be full-time students enrolled with a recognized university in Africa and in need of conference travel funds.
They should have a paper accepted at a top-tier computer science conference, preferably in research areas of strong interest to Google (refer to research.google.com for the list of areas).
The applicant must be the sole or joint first author of the accepted paper.
Google employees are not eligible to apply for Google scholarships.
Individuals who are residents of embargoed countries, ordinarily resident in embargoed countries, or prohibited by applicable export controls and sanctions programs are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

The Scholarships will be awarded based on the review of applications.
All applicants will be notified of their status within the specified time frames for the region.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis throughout the year.
Eligible applicants can expect a response approximately four weeks after applying.
Recommended applying well in advance of the Conference start date to allow for a payment completion timeline of 5-8 weeks.
Google will pay the approved travel grant funds directly to the applicant’s university.
The student can claim expenses using regular university procedures.
