Collaboration for continuous learning

  • Collaboration across perspectives and at all levels is crucial for improving student outcomes.
  • ERN prioritizes a student-centered approach and supports the voices of those most affected by systemic inequities.
  • Commit to collaborating with families, educators, policymakers, elected officials, civil rights leaders, and advocates.
  • Advance a shared vision for a bright future for all students, families, and communities, particularly those historically denied this opportunity.

POLICY OVERVIEW

Too many colleges and universities serve as gatekeepers to opportunity, admitting and graduating abysmally small numbers of Black and Latino students, and students from low-income families—perpetuating gaps in opportunity, earning potential and career advancement.

ERN support policies that:

  •    Actively challenge state and college leaders to eliminate admission policies that perpetuate structural racism and systemic inequities.
  •    Practices like legacy preference and binding early decision hinder fairness in college admissions and erode public trust in higher education.
  •    Strive to drive down the cost of obtaining a postsecondary credential and alleviate the burden of student loans.
  •  Utilize data and student services to ensure that all students receive comprehensive support, enabling them to graduate on time.
  • Advocate that institutions of higher education should be held accountable for their responsibility to increase student success rates.
  • Aim to expand pathways between K-12 public education and career/workforce development programs.

This includes access to high-quality dual enrollment coursework during high school and beyond, as well as ensuring seamless credit transfer between all public institutions within a state and neighboring state

Programs and Impact

Work to ensure that equity remains at the heart of all education policy conversations and legislation.

ERN has campaigned vigorously for measures to make states more accountable for the use of recovery funds to close learning gaps and encourage remedial.

Convince Congress to legislate to require states to allocate at least US$28 billion to “evidence-based” interventions to address learning losses.

Called on the Federal Department of Education to require states to use recovery funds that would specifically come from the $122 billion allocated for post-pandemic recovery assistance to adequately address learning gaps.

Helped persuade the Federal Ministry of Education to issue guidelines

ERN mobilized  Senate supporters, and persuaded the Biden administration to seek $440 million in funding for charter schools.
The organization works to raise historically silenced voices and celebrate the strengths of diversity by supporting the dynamic leadership of our underserved communities.
