- The scholarships are available to several categories of applicants:
- Big Y employees and their dependents.
- Big Y customers and their dependents.
- First responders (law enforcement officers and firefighters) and military service members and their families.
- Students who can demonstrate their personal impact on their local community.
- The first member in their immediate family to attend college.
- Nontraditional students.
- Applicants must submit a transcript, standardized test scores (SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, or LSAT), 2 letters of recommendation, and a resume.
- Selection is based on academic merit and achievement.

- Big Y no longer accepts paper applications.
- The scholarship committee will not consider incomplete or late submissions after Feb 1.

Be cautious when encountering prior year paper applications on the internet or 3rd party sites, as they are invalid and we will not accept them.
Supporting Documents:
- Academic Transcripts: Unofficial digital copies (photos, PDFs, scans) are acceptable.
- Two Letters of Recommendation: One must be from a teacher or college professor.
- High school seniors and college freshmen can submit college entrance recommendation letters.
- If you didn’t take College Board exams (e.g., SAT or ACT) or it’s been more than 3 years, you can complete the online application without them.
- Personal resume/fact sheet detailing activities, achievements, awards, community involvement, leadership positions, and class rank (if applicable).
For High School, College, University Representatives:
Every year, Big Y mails scholarship packets (poster and letter) to schools in Massachusetts and Connecticut in early Fall.
To add or remove your school from the mailing list, email scholarship@bigy.com.
If you receive an email request from a student, you can upload the recommendation letter using the provided link. The student won’t see the letter; only the scholarship committee can view it.

Scholarship Application Timeline:
Online application available from Nov 1 to Feb 1.
Notifications emailed in early April (check SPAM folder if needed).
Scholarship recipient names posted on bigy.com in early May.
